God’s Food Bank Honored at Local Charity Night on Thursday, February 19

Guthrie, OK – February 16, 2009 Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest state in the nation, and with increasing economic distress, our local food banks and pantries are seeing an increase in people asking for assistance. On February 19, at Hastings Steakhouse, you can learn more about a local organization helping others in Logan County.

God’s Food Bank is a non-denominational grass roots organization that feeds needy families in Logan County, with the goal of touching people’s hearts, fighting hunger and giving hope. God’s Food Bank was started 11 years ago and today serves more than 400 families in Logan County. They provide numerous children needed food in the Food 4 Kids backpack program. Food 4 Kids is a school-based emergency assistance program that provides weekly backpacks full of food to children at risk of going to bed hungry each night. Though God’s Food Bank is funded in part by United Way, FEMA, and the Regional Food Bank, they rely heavily on private donors and local fundraisers.

In a recent survey, Feeding America found that more than 80 percent of its food banks reported they could not meet the increased demand without trimming operations or reducing the amount of food they provide. Government programs and corporate aid will not be enough to feed hungry Americans. It’s going to take individuals getting involved with time, food and money, and the good news is that this Thursday there is a fun and easy way that you can get involved.

If you didn’t make it to last week’s Charity Night at Hastings Steakhouse located at 312 W. Oklahoma, you haven’t missed your chance to enjoy a great dinner while supporting a great cause every Thursday evening from 5pm until 9pm. This Thursday, February 19, Hastings Steakhouse with your help will be supporting God’s Food Bank.

Hastings Steakhouse also encourages you to mark your calendar for another upcoming Charity Night honoring the Bethel Foundation on February 26th,. The Bethel Foundation is building a 23 bed safe house in Logan County for families escaping domestic violence.
